The World Loves CM Punk

By now, you’ve all seen this.  I touched on it briefly during this morning’s Raw Roundup, but there’s really no adequate way to describe it.  It needs to be witnessed to be appreciated.  For those interested, you can read a full transcript of the foundation-shaking promo right here.  I’m not going to talk about it anymore; there is nothing I can say to make it any better than it already is.  What I will do is bring you what others around the wrestling community have said about it.  Beyond the jump you’ll find a collection of tweets from a variety of wrestlers offering their opinions on the already-infamous promo.  As you’d expect, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.  Interestingly, most of the Twitter activity regarding Punk’s tirade last night has come from non-WWE sources.  With a couple of exceptions, most superstars currently contracted by the company have remained conspicuously silent about Raw’s closing moments, leading me to believe that there was a decree from within WWE for their talent not to discuss Punk’s words.  Still, you’ll find comments from 30+ wrestlers and a few celebrities just past the jump.  Before we get to that, though…

This video is also from last night’s Raw in Las Vegas, and while it doesn’t compare to his phenomenal rant, it’s still Punk entertaining like only Punk can.  Now without further adieu, to the tweets!

All right, so this one is slightly vague, and may not actually be about Punk.  He did refer to himself as the “best in the world” during his promo though, and we’ve already discussed Maria’s understandable inability to move on in her post-Punk life.

Oh, Jay Briscoe.

….Wonder what The Miz has to say about that.

You’ll remember that Delirious usually speaks in almost utter jibberish.  This tweet is pretty perfect.

In light of the events of Sunday, this is a spot-on response.  Two of the best angles going in wrestling right now.

I think this was as close to criticism as anybody came, and it’s still praising Punk’s work.

Punk broke the fourth wall to give a much appreciated shout-out to his fellow Second City Saint, Colt Cabana.

Bryan’s tweet might be may favorite of all of these; it’s so well stated.  Punk’s words raised the eyebrows of some notables outside of the wrestling community as well, such as sports columnist Bill Simmons, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, and pseudo-wrestlers the Insane Clown Posse.

As the day progresses, I’m sure there’s going to be a slew of other wrestlers weighing in on the historic promo cut by CM Punk last night.  It was truly one of the best segments I’ve ever witnessed in all my years as a fan of this fine industry.  CM Punk, thanks for the memories.

Hey Colt Cabana, how ya doin'?

    • Yeah there’s really no room for anything but straight praise and admiration in a time like this. Punk’s the man, and he was allowed to go shoot like that because he’s more capable than just about everybody else, he’s earned it.

  1. does taz think that for a second, if given the opportunity to “shoot” on live television, he would have done half as well as punk? i hear this guy on tna every week and its a wonder that he can put together complete sentences. he cant even call wrestling moves without sounding like a borderline retard. taz had the look, and the ability, but the bulk of his popularity was the people he worked with making him look great and the promoter he worked for knowing how to sell him. the most overrated wrestler of the 90’s and one of the worst commentators of all time. if he didn’t get the chance to commentate after he was no use in the ring anymore, who would remember taz besides people on the internet. how many wrestling fans know mike awesomes body of work? yeah, that would be taz.
